SELSHP Opioid Update: A Psychiatric Pharmacist's Perspectiv
TYPE OF ACTIVITY/WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This knowledge-based activity is of importance to all pharmacists.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Compare the currently available opiates in terms of potency and structure.
2. Review current local and national statistics and interventions on the opioid crisis.
3. Discuss the role of pharmacists as well as other healthcare providers in the opioid epidemic.
4. Examine treatment strategies for both opioid dependence and overdose.
5. Explore the options in treating pain in patients with an opioid use disorder by reviewing current CDC guidelines.
 
At the conclusion of this activity, technicians should be able to:
1. Compare the currently available opiates in terms of availability in pharmacies and on the streets.
2. Discuss abuse potential and why these drugs can be so dangerous.
3. Review current local and national statistics and interventions on the opioid crisis.
4. Discuss the role of the pharmacy technician in the opioid epidemic.
5. Review the use of the available options for treatment of opioid overdose.
