Speaker Biographies


Eric Bauer, R.Ph., BCSCP

Eric Bauer

Eric is a 1990-pharmacy graduate from St. John’s University, and has been involved in sterile compounding for over 20 years. He is board certified in sterile compounding.

Eric has hosted numerous FDA inspections and quality audits, as both a Pharmacy Director and a Quality Assurance Regional Manager for one of the nation’s largest networks of sterile compounding pharmacies.

In his current consulting role, Eric has developed USP <797> and <800> readiness assessment programs and has conducted training in USP <797>, regulatory inspections, and competency assessments of cleanroom personnel.

 

Alaina DeKerlegand, Pharm.D., BCIDP

Dr. DeKerlegand received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2017. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at AdventHealth Orlando in 2018 and her PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2019. She joined the team at Our Lady of the Lake in July 2019, where she serves as the Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Specialist. Her interest areas include gram-negative resistance and fungal infections. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, she has assisted with the pharmacy COVID-19 task force for Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.

 

Sharon Durfee, R.Ph., BCNSP, FASPEN

She has been a member of the BPS Nutrition Support Pharmacy Specialty Council and the BPS Board of Directors, including chair of the board of directors in 2014. She is currently serving on the Compounded Sterile Preparations Specialty Council.

She has been active in ASPEN for many years participating on various committees and task forces receiving the Distinguished Nutrition Support Pharmacist award and being awarded fellow of ASPEN. Currently, she is a member of the Public Policy Committee and the PN Safety Committee.

Sharon has many years of experience in hospital pharmacy and as the director of a home-infusion pharmacy providing IV services to home care, ambulatory care and long-term care patients.

 

Clifton Franklin, MBA, PHR, CPCU, AIM

“Many regard Clifton (Cliff) as a passionate, caring, genuine individual.  His authentic leadership style helps him to quickly connect with others while building and fostering strong relationships.  He’s a resource and is sought out by many; even those he has worked with in the past still come to him for insight and guidance.

Cliff has twenty years of experience in Human Resources and various formal leadership roles including positions at State Farm Insurance, the City of Austin, and Gilsbar, LLC.  As a Senior Employee Relations Advisor at the City of Austin, he was honored with the ‘Director’s Award’ in 2018 for always going above and beyond each day in support of the employees and Executives.

Cliff loves music no matter the genre.  And even though he is proud of the impact he has been able to have throughout his professional career, he truly believes he was born to be a Cowboy.  This is proven by his bowlegs and awesome boot collection.  But more than music, Cliff loves to SERVE.  Be it as a son, brother, friend, Human Resources professional, leader, mentor, or as a community volunteer, the opportunity to serve others and impact lives wakes Cliff up in the morning and brings him joy!

 

William Kirchain, Pharm.D., CDE

Dr. Kirchain is the Director of the Xavier University College of Pharmacy Health and Wellness Center. He oversees a large community-based practice focused on the prevention and early detection of disease and the promotion of wellness through self-care and healthy lifestyle choices. The Center provides free screenings for a variety of chronic diseases; medication check-ups; smoking cessation coaching; diabetes classes and health cooking classes.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kirchain teaches pharmacy law and regulation at Xavier. He currently or has served as President of the Louisiana Pharmacists Association, the Chair for Public Policy, Louisiana Society of Health-system Pharmacists, Vice Chair for the Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners’ Advisory Committee for Collaborative Practice, Louisiana Delegate of the APhA House of Delegates and the Board of Directors Louisiana Pharmacists Association.

 

Joseph D. LeBlanc, Jr. Pharm.D., R.Ph., MHA, MBA, DPLA

“It is important for aspiring leaders in the healthcare industry to pursue opportunities to affect positive change through organizational leadership when possible and constantly have their sights set on learning more.”

Dr. LeBlanc attended pharmacy school at the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy where he obtained is Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2010.  He received his Master of Health Administration Degree from Simmons College in 2014 and his Master Business Administration from New England College in 2016.  Dr. LeBlanc has 11 years experience as a licensed pharmacist 8 of which has been spent in hospital pharmacy management. He has served as a sterile compounding clean room consultant for independent, specialty pharmacies and as a consultant on director of pharmacy advisory boards for pharmaceutical companies. He currently serves as pharmacy manager at Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital and as a licensed staff pharmacy for Wal-Mart Pharmacy. Dr. LeBlanc also serves as Central Chapter President of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists and as a Louisiana Delegate on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists House of Delegates. He is the 2012 recipient of the Louisiana Pharmacist Association Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year Award, the 2014 recipient of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists Outstanding Affiliate Chapter President Award, the 2015 recipient of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award, the 2017 Louisiana Pharmacists Association Hospital Pharmacist of the Year Award, and the 2018 Upsher-Smith Excellence in Innovation Award. Dr. LeBlanc has distinguished himself as an advocate of sterile compounding through his numerous organizational lectures and works to provide a pharmacy community with a successful transition towards compliance with the upcoming sterile and hazardous drug compounding standards.

 

Tara Montgomery, Pharm.D, MS, MBA, MPH

Tara Montgomery currently serves as Director of Pharmacy Services at Touro Infirmary/LCMC Health New Orleans, LA. Tara joined the Touro/LCMC Health Team in September 2016, with 20 + years of experience in Pharmacy Operations and Clinical Practice Management. In addition to administrative oversight at Touro, she is the Touro Pharmacy Practice Residency Director and actively precepts Pharmacy students and Residents. Tara’s professional background includes Operational Management, Managed Care, Prescription Benefit Management, Pharmaceutical Industry, and Pharmacy Academia.

 

Johlee Odinet, Pharm.D., BCPS

Johlee S. Odinet, PharmD, BCPS is currently the Medication Safety Supervisor at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy and continued on to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Health Systems Medication Use Management Residency at the University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. Her current research and practice interests include Medication Safety and Quality, medication use technology, trigger tool development, and Just Culture. Johlee has also had the pleasure of serving on ASHP's Medication Safety Section Advisory Group for the past 3 years, and most recently chaired a work group focusing on Just Culture.

 

Anh Tran, Pharm.D.

Anh Tran received her Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree in 2019 from the Chicago State University in Chicago, IL. She also completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Chicago – Ingalls Memorial in Harvey, IL. Upon completion of her residency, she moved back home to New Orleans, LA and has worked at Touro Infirmary as the Geriatric Emergency Department Pharmacist. She has also played an integral role in the development of the Senior Care unit at Touro Infirmary.

 

Myra Thomas, BS Pharm, MBA

Education: B.S. Pharmacy, University of  Kentucky, MBA, University of Dallas

Practice Interests:  Administration, leadership development, strategic planning, operations
Myra Thomas currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Pharmacy Services at Ochsner Medical Center New Orleans. Myra joined the Ochsner Pharmacy Team in May 2019, bringing with her over 30 years of experience in institutional pharmacy practice. In addition to administrative oversight of pharmacy operations at OMC, she precepts the pharmacy administration rotations. Myra’s background includes extensive experience in clinical pharmacy, acute care operations, and pharmacy supply chain.
